Ethiopian Banks Report Record Profit in 2025/26

Ethiopian banks reported record profit in 2025/26 fiscal year. The banks this week shared details of the profit.
State owned Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) reported a record profit of over 80 billion birr for the 2025/26 fiscal year. CBE generated over 272 billion birr in revenue in the reported year. Its profit rose by 146.3 percent. Awash Bank, one of the largest private banks, reported 40.7 billion Birr in 2025/26 financial year. The bank recorded a pre-tax profit of 22.6 billion birr in the 2024/2025 financial year.
Several other banks also registered record profit in the fiscal year ending last month. They have not released details for the whole year so far. The Development Bank of Ethiopia (DBE) last month reported that it had recorded gross profit of 08 billion birr in the first nine months of the fiscal year 2025/2026. In May this year, Amhara Bank announced that it recorded a pre-tax profit of 1.82 billion birr during the first eight months of the 2025/26 fiscal year. In February 2026, Zemen Bank of Ethiopia reported over 05 billion birr gross profit for the first half of the 2025/26 fiscal year.
