“There is an urgent need to establish a government that includes all political forces,” say Tigray opposition parties.
Three opposition parties of Tigray on Friday issued a joint statement. The statement has come at a time when Tigray’s largest political party called Tigray People’s Liberation Front(TPLF) is holding a controversial party congress amid deep intra party divisions.
In a joint statement Baytona, Salsay Woyane and Tigray Independence Part expressed concern at the ongoing political conflict in TPLF, and between TPLF & Tigray interim government.
“The main solution to the political instability that has arisen is the immediate establishment of a government in which all political forces participate equally,” the parties suggested.
They pointed out that they have repeatedly called for the immediate formation of a government in which all political forces participate equally, but they have not been heard.
TPLF has been the strongest and largest political party in the Tigray region of Ethiopia. It ruled on central level too for around three decades. Opposition parties are extremely small. They have been hoping to grow after Pretoria peace deal was signed in November 2022. But regional government (mainly led by TPLF) refused to allow them to hold peaceful public gatherings.
