At least 20 people were killed in an attack on a wedding in the West Shewa zone Oromia region of Ethiopia. The incident happened on Saturday in Nono district.
According to local government and military officials, a wedding which was organized on Saturday in Nono district was targeted. The head of the Nono district command post Teshome Seboka, said that this attack took place in the early hours of Saturday and the attackers are “extremist Amhara militants”.
“The militants locked doors and threw more than 1 hand grenades at the wedding venue. They killed bride, bridegroom and other participants, ” said Teshome. Those who managed to escape the wedding venue were shot by bullets. Some local reports show that the number of casualties including those killed by bullets could rise to fifty (50). Nonno district of Oromia shares a border with Central Ethiopia Region, close to Walkiete town. The victims are from Oromo ethnic group, reportedly.
