Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) has announced that vehicle movement along the strategic Ethiopia Djibouti Road has been disrupted. OLA, an armed group based in the Oromia region of Ethiopia, has been fighting the Ethiopian security forces for years.
“As of yesterday afternoon, the Ethiopia Djibouti highway has been effectively halted. Fighting between OLA and regime forces has intensified, resulting in the interception of the highway near Awash and Adama, disrupting a critical supply and transport route,” said OLA in a statement released today.
The armed group further claimed that within the past few days of its operations, it has captured 3 heavy machine guns and hundreds of AK-47 rifles (AKMs). “Thousands of rounds of ammunition have been seized and dozens of regime soldiers have been taken prisoner,” OLA claimed.
Ethiopia Djibouti highway and rail link are lifelines of the Ethiopian economy. Ethiopia, being a landlocked country, used Djibouti’s ports for over 90% of its imports and exports.
