Fano militias, on Thursday, announced lifting of restrictions on travel and transport in the Amhara region.
On Tuesday, Fano groups in Wollo and Shewa imposed a complete 2-day ban on transport. A ban was already in place in Gojjam. Earlier this month, Gojjam Fano placed a ban on the movement of all types of vehicles. The two-day transport ban caused complete disruption in traffic flow.
Ethiopian Transporters Association confirmed in a statement that the transport ban had led to a halt to the movement of vehicles in various parts of the Amhara region.
On Thursday evening, Wollo and Gojjam groups issued separate statements. They thanked people for implementing the strike call and lifted the transport ban.
Since last year, the Ethiopian military has been conducting an operation against Fano militias in the Amhara region. The Fano militias fought alongside the Ethiopian military in Tigray war. After the war, the military decided to disarm and disband these militias, which led to the start of clashes between them.
