President of Somalia Hassan Sheikh, and the leader of al-Shabaab Abu Ubaida released messages on Eid Al-Adha. Muslims in Somalia and other countries are celebrating Eid al Adha on Sunday.
President Hassan Sheikh in a recorded video urged the “misguided” youth of al-Shabaab to come back from their path. “Come back to your people and your country, you do not have another country and another people,” he said.
He called Al Shabaab “Khawariji”. “There is no future on your side. The future is on your peoples’ side. The days of the Khawarij are coming to an end. The fight goes on until Khawarij disappear,” the President of Somalia said.
In a contrasting message, leader of al-Shabaab, Abu Ubaidah blamed foreigners and local “apostates” for all problems in Somalia. “US failed to establish the kind of government it wanted in Somalia,” he claimed.
He said, every extension of ATMIS “will end in failure,” and told his fighters to “liberate” towns after AU forces finally leave. Mandate of ATMIS troops will expire at the end of this year.
Abu Ubaida rejected agreements signed by the government of Somalia. “Every agreement is illegal and will not be implemented,” he said. He mentioned the recently signed Ethiopia-Somaliland Memorandum of Understanding. He said we are “ready to fight” against the MOU.
