An aid worker was shot dead in the Amhara region of Ethiopia last week. Medical Teams International, a humanitarian organization, shared details of the incident today.

In the Amhara region, fighting has been on going since last year between Fano fighters and Ethiopian military and aid organizations have been providing aid to people in Amhara despite fighting. One such organization is Medical Teams International. The organization is known for providing medical aid services to displaced persons and refugees in Amhara, Tigray, Afar, Benshangul Gumuz and Somali regions of Ethiopia.

The organization announced today that its aid worker was killed in the west Gondar zone of Amhara region.

The aid worker was travelling in a vehicle with his colleagues in west Gondar. The organization disclosed that the aid worker was killed by gunmen who shot at the vehicle. One aid worker was killed and others were injured. The organization did not disclose the names and identities of the aid workers and attackers.

The organization is investigating the incident. It says that the attack was not accidental.

Amhara Fano in Gondar released a statement about this incident this week. Fano denied involvement in this murder. It said that the area, where this incident happened, was under the control of the Ethiopian military. Military has not issued any statement in this regard so far.
