Jawar Mohammed

Jawar Mohammed, an Ethiopian politician from Oromia region, published a social media message to criticize the government yesterday. He demanded action by government on two issues.

Jawar Mohammed is Deputy Chairman of a political party named OFC (Oromo Federalist Congress). He was arrested on the 30th June, 2020. He was arrested after Oromo singer Hacalu’s murder. He and some other politicians were arrested. He was released on the 5th February, 2022. He remained silent for almost two years but he has become active now.

He started criticizing the Ethiopian government this month. A few hours ago, Jawar Mohammad posted a message to criticize the government. This is his third message. In his earlier two messages, he mentioned government is responsible for all the conflicts or wars in whole Ethiopia because government does not solve any problem by dialogue, it uses force.

In this new message he said,” In the past few months, the government of Oromia has repeatedly called for peace. Instead of bragging about war it is better to preach peace. Now singing peacefully in language, if it doesn’t go together in real action, it’s a joke to the people and themselves.”

He demanded actions on 2 issues. Firstly, he called for the release of Oromo Liberation Front leaders who are being kept in prison unjustly.

Secondly, he talked about the murder of OLF leader Battee Urgessaa who was shot dead in April. He said,” The one who killed Bate Urgesa is a government force because the government has violated the human right government, I hope we won’t try to fight like the first time. Now let’s bring those who killed him and killed him to justice.”

Jawar is not based in Ethiopia these days. He was seen in Kenya a few months ago.
