Details of Ethiopian foreign direct investment 2025/26 have been announced. Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC) has stated that the country attracted 4.32 billion dollars in foreign direct investment (FDI) in the 2025/26 fiscal year. The amount represents an 8% increase compared with the previous year. In 2024/25, the country attracted 4.0 billion dollar which means that the country has attracted 320 million dollars more.

According to EIC, $4.32 billion FDI does not include the investments promised by companies at the “4th Invest in Ethiopia Forum” which was held a few months ago. Some of the companies recently took investment licenses. FDI is an important driver of economic growth because it brings new opportunities and businesses to the country. The biggest areas which attracted investors in Ethiopia are manufacturing, mining, energy and renewable projects. Foreign companies are investing in solar energy and food processing too.

China remains one of Ethiopia’s largest foreign investors especially in manufacturing industry and infrastructure. Countries like India, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Singapore and United Arab Emirates are also active investors. Ethiopia is building a new airport that could become one of the biggest aviation projects in Africa. The Bishoftu International Airport is expected to strengthen the country’s position as a major travel and business center. This airport is estimated to cost around $12.5 billion. The project is expected to attract FDI in fiscal year 2026/27.
