Tigray-TPLF

TPLF loyalists, on Sunday, disrupted a meeting held by Tigray Interim President Getachew Reda in Shire city of Tigray.

Getachew Reda and General Tsadkan had just entered Haftom hall for this public discussion when dozens of women participants stood up and started chanting slogans against the Tigray President.

General Tsadkan, realizing the gravity of the situation, left the meeting hall. Getachew Reda tried to speak but protesters, aligned with Tigray People’s Liberation Front Debretsion Group, did not allow him to address the participants. Some Getachew Reda supported voiced their support for him but they were outnumbered by the other group.

The protesters accused Getachew Reda of not representing TPLF and Tigray. They told him to leave the hall. The President ultimately left the meeting hall without delivering a speech.

Tigray Communication Affairs Bureau later issued a statement saying that the public discussion forum in Shire had been postponed as some elements disrupted it.

Tigray is witnessing unprecedented political tensions between two political groups. Both claim to be TPLF. One is led by Debretsion Gebremichael, the newly elected party chairman and the other is led by Getachew Reda, Tigray Interim President.
