Ethiopia Fails to Publish Data about Marburg Virus Status
Ethiopia is sharing no data about the spread of Marburg virus. Around 72 hours ago, World Health Organization confirmed the outbreak of the virus in Ethiopia.
On November 14, 2025, WHO Director General Dr. Tedros Adhanom announced that nine cases of Marburg virus had been confirmed in Ethiopia. Since then, the Ethiopian authorities have not shared any update about the number of infections, casualties etc. Southern Ethiopia is the center of Marburg Virus spread. Most of the case were reported in Jinka town in southern Ethiopia.
Within the last 48 hours, the Ethiopian Ministry of Health only shared material to educate people. Through statements, the ministry briefed people about the spread and prevention of the virus. But no statistics have been shared about the actual status of the disease.
Marburg virus is highly dangerous. It is from Ebola virus family. Mortality rate ranges from 20% to 80%.
