Eritrea Applies to be Member of BRICS
Eritrea and 28 other countries have applied to be member of BRICS. BRIC founding countries Brazil, Russia, India, and China held the 1st summit in Yekaterinburg in 2009, with South Africa joining the bloc a year later. Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates joined the organization on 1 January 2024.
29 other nations have applied to be members. Nations who have submitted applications to join BRICS are: Azerbaijan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Bahrain, Belarus, Bolivia, Venezuela, Vietnam, Honduras, Zimbabwe, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Kuwait, Morocco, Nigeria, Nicaragua, Palestine, Pakistan, Senegal, Syria, Thailand, Turkey, Uganda, Chad, Sri Lanka, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea and South Sudan.
BRICS Games officially opened this week in Kazan, Russia and will last until June 24, around 5,000 athletes are competing in 27 sports. 97 countries are participating. Russian President Vladimir Putin opened the BRICS 2024 Games.
Eritrea, which is still under sanctions from western countries, has been calling for the establishment of New World Order. It has been urging Chinese and Russian leaders to take the lead and steer the international community towards the establishment of an alternative world order.
