Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) is transporting heavy weapons from Tigray into Eritrea. That was claimed by a former Ethiopian ambassador who is part of Ethiopian ruling Prosperity Party.

Ambassador Muaz Gebrehiwot W / Selassie in an interview this week claimed that Tigray People’s Liberation Front is digging out heavy weapons which it buried and did not handover to the Ethiopian National Defense Force during DDR (Demobilization, Disarmament & Reintegration) programs launched under Pretoria Deal. According to the ambassador, the heavy weapons are being secretly dug out and transported to Eritrea. Allegedly, the weapons are being sent from Tigray to Eritrea via Shiraro and Badme towns. The two towns are located on Tigray Eritrea border.

Muaz Gebrehiwot further claimed that Tigray military hid at least one Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) and that the Ethiopian federal government knows where the MLRS is hidden in Tigray.

Tensions have been rising between TPLF and Federal Government of Ethiopia in recent months. Last week, federal forces conducted a drone strike on Tigray soldiers on Afar-Tigray border. Both Federal Govt and TPLF accuse each other of violating Pretoria Deal and making preparations for a new war. Pretoria Deal, in November 2022, ended deadly two year long war between Tigray regional forces and Ethiopian federal forces. Over half a million people were killed in the war.
