Tigray Bureau of Peace and Security today warned the Ethiopian federal government. In a statement issued earlier today, the Tigray govt warned the Ethiopian federal government.
“Our patience should not be treated as fear,” says Tigray Bureau of Peace & Security. For days, military tensions have been rising between Tigray regional forces and the Ethiopian federal forces. Ethiopian federal forces have been seen heading towards and being deployed to Tigray borders.
The bureau of peace and security said Tigray will never make a compromise on Tigrayan identity. It demanded return of IDPs, restoration of Tigray’s borders, and creation of favorable conditions for the exercise of Article 39 (Right to Self Determination) in the statement.
Tigray regional forces and Ethiopian federal forces fought a deadly war recently, which ended in November 2022. But several key issues remain unsolved including restoration of the political status of Tigray People’s Liberation Front, determination of the status of disputed Humera Welkait Tsegede zone, and return of tens of thousands of IDPs who were displaced during war.
The two sides again seem to be on the brink of a new war. Only urgent regional and international intervention can avert the war.
