South Gondar Fano has killed mayors, woreda administrators, security heads, government officials, police, militia commanders and dozens of others in a deadly attack carried out on Thursday.
The operation by South Gondar Fano was launched in co ordination with Wollo and Gojjam Fano groups. It was launched on March 18 in Dera and Upper Gayint woredas. In Hamusit town of Dera woreda, a meeting of Prosperity Party and Security Officials was underway when Fano surrounded the venue and opened fire. In Upper Gayint, Nefas Mewcha town was targeted by Fano. Reportedly there was no significant presence of the Ethiopian National Defense Force in these woredas at the time of the attack by Fano. Some ENDF units in recent month were relocated from South Gondar towards Tigray border.
Reportedly, Fano fighters killed, captured and wounded around 500 government and security officials in Thursday’s attack. ENDF returned to the area after the deadly attack. But Fano fighters retreated before Ethiopian military’s entry into the area. Following security and administrative officials were killed by Fano in this incident:
