Rumors of Ebola Virus Outbreak in Jinka Southern Ethiopia

Rumors are going around about Ebola virus outbreak in Jinka town in southern Ethiopia where 5 people including 2 health professionals have died due to an unknown disease within a week.

However Ethiopian Ministry of Health issued a statement today. It confirmed the outbreak of Hemorrhagic fever disease in southern Ethiopia. “At this time in Jinka city of southern Ethiopia region, colonial data has shown that there is a hemorrhagic fever disease that is being confirmed,” the Ethiopian ministry of health said today. The ministry said that eight people have been suspected of the disease so far. The ministry announced that it is sending a quick response team to the site to find out the cause of the disease and to prevent further spread and control.

Following advices and precautions have been shared by the Ethiopian ministry of health:

  • When there are signs of bleeding, fever, constipation and reflux in the mouth, nose and other parts of the body, go to medical institutions and do laboratory examination at the time.
  • Using self-defense techniques when in contact with any person with signs,
  • Clean hands with soap, water and sanitizer.
  • Every health institution should pay special attention to the identification of patients and identify, examine, treat and report viral hemorrhagic fever.
