Fano Militias Conduct Drone Strikes on Ethiopian Military

Fano militias have conducted drone strikes on the Ethiopian military in the Amhara region of Ethiopia. This week, they released footages of their drone attacks on the Ethiopian security forces.

Since 2023, Fano fighters have been fighting the regional and federal security forces. They have been trying to acquire drones. A video released this week by Shewa Fano shows deputy chairman of Amhara Fano National Movement Mekataw Mamu with a small quadcopter drone. Several other footages released show drone strikes by Fano on Ethiopian military in Kewet, Shewa Robit and other part of North Shewa zone which is situated in the Amhara region of Ethiopia.

The footages indicate that Amhara Fano National Movement is conducting drone strikes from command centers in North Shewa Amhara. Fano seem to have acquired FPV (First Person View) drones which are being extensively used in battlefields across the world. FPV drones are cheap, mobile and east to operate.

The acquisition of FPV drones by Fano indicates that the Ethiopian anti government armed groups including Tigray People’s Liberation Front, Oromo Liberation Army and Amhara Fano National Movement are acquiring drones to counter the Ethiopian air force which has bought TB2, Akinji, Mohajer 6, Wing Long and other modern combat drones from Turkey, Iran, UAE and other countries.
