Fano Commander Mesafint Tesfu’s Son Killed in Gondar
A senior Fano commander Mesafint Tesfu’s son has been killed. He was killed in a place in Gondar reportedly.
Mesafint Tesfu is one of the most well known Fano militia commanders. The Fano faction led by him has been based in north Gondar. Mesafint participated in Tigray war in support of federal forces against Tigray regional forces. However since 2023, Fano militias have been fighting the Ethiopian security forces in the Amhara region.
Getnet Mesafint, Fano commander Mesafint’s son, was killed in Kola Gondar today. Like his father, Getnet was also leading a Fano group. He was killed in a shootout against another armed group. The armed group was allegedly involved in kidnapping and looting in Gondar.
Pro Fano sources have confirmed that Getnet Mesafint has been killed. Since 2023, thousands have been killed in the ongoing clashes between Fano militias and security forces in the Amhara region of Ethiopia.
