Amhara Fano fighters claim to have killed over 170 Ethiopian government soldiers last week. Since mid 2023, fighting in Amhara region has been ongoing between Fano fighters and security forces.
According to Fano sources, over 170 government soldiers were killed and 40+ captured in July 18 battle across Metema woreda. Metema woreda is situated on Ethiopia Sudan border. It is located in west Gondar zone of the Amhara region.
Pictures have been released by Fano groups showing Kalashnikovs, heavy machineguns, mortar & LMG seized from Ethiopian military. Ethiopian military’s 78th division 1st and 2nd regiments suffering losses during this clash.
Since the start of this month, fighting between Fano and Ethiopian military has been intensifying. In the ongoing rainy season, both sides want to inflict losses on each other before winter.
