A Tigrayan businessman namely Zeru Libanos is reportedly mediating between TPLF and the Ethiopian federal government.

Zeru Libanos, also known as Zeru Gebrelibanos, is an investor, philanthropist, and businessman from the Tigray region of Ethiopia. He is the founder and CEO of Zeru Business Group. He is also a founding member of North Star Trade SC (also known as Northern Star Airlines) and the owner of the Northern Star Hotel in Mekelle, Tigray.

Zeru Libanos has close contacts with Tigray government and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF). During a recent public appearance, the Tigrayan businessman urged Tigray military and TPLF to act preemptively in order to counter the alleged aggression shown by the Ethiopian federal govt.

According to sources, Zeru Libanos is in Addis Ababa. He is contacting the Ethiopian federal government leaders. He wants to share TPLF’s concerns with the Ethiopian federal government. It remains to be seen if the federal government will positively respond to Zeru’s efforts or not.

Tensions have been rising between TPLF and the Ethiopian federal government. The federal government is not happy with growing closeness between TPLF and Eritrea. TPLF, on the other hand, accuses the Ethiopian federal government of not implementing Pretoria Deal which ended two year long war in November 2022.
